Wanted: Gap standers

I attended an all day conference hosted at our church Saturday  featuring Kay Arthur, founder of Precept Ministries International. She has been writing and teaching inductive Bible Studies for forty years.  She is now seventy- seven years old, and says she is not planning on retiring, because the Bible says there is no retirement in war.  And yes, we are at war for the soul of this great nation.  Make no mistake about it. There is an all out assault to destroy the foundation that this nation was founded upon.

The title of the conference was “America at the Crossroads.”  It was very intense as she took us through many Old Testament passages showing the demise of Israel.  Over and over,  God sent prophets to warn His people to turn from their wicked ways and idols, but no one would listen.  God always keeps His Word.  Jeremiah warned the people for twenty-three years to no avail.  Ezekiel and Daniel were contemporaries of Jeremiah.   In Ezekiel 22:30 God says, ” I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one.”

The similarities of the United States of America and of the nation of Israel from the Old Testament prophets is so evident to those who study and know God’s Word.  The Church in America is very weak, and we need to build up an army of God to stand in the gap for this nation and build up the wall that has been crumbling for many years.   A survey conducted by George Barna in March, 2009 revealed that only 9% of American adults had a Biblical worldview, and of those who said they had made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ, only 19% held a Biblical worldview. A Biblical worldview is defined as believing that absolute moral truth exists, Satan is considered to be a real force, not symbolic, that Jesus is the only way to  the Father, and that God is omnipotent.

We need to be like the tribe of Issachar, who according to 1 Chronicles 12:32, they were “men who had understanding of the times to know what Israel ought to do.”  The context of this passage is the Israelites were forming an army to make David their king because God had chosen him to be king. We too must understand the times and know what we as believers in America ought to do.

We can’t sit back and be silent. We have to stop bowing to the idol of political correctness. We have to get involved in our government, hold our elected officials accountable, know their voting records before we vote, and pray for those in authority as 1 Timothy 2:1 & 2 commands us to do.  We must speak out when our liberties are being taken from us.  The government is not God, and we must remind them of that.   We also must strengthen the bride of Christ, His Church. We need to pray for our pastors not to water down the truth of the Gospel. We also have to speak up when we see God’s Word being maligned.  We have to know His Word in order to realize when someone is not teaching truth.  Daniel 11:32b states “but the people who know their God shall prove themselves strong and shall stand firm and do exploits for God.” NASB  In order to stand firm , we must know our God and the only way to know Him is to be in His Word and study it daily to prove ourselves strong.

May it not be said of us that God looked and looked for someone to stand in the gap for this nation and He find no one!  I, for one will stand. I love this nation too much to sit back and watch as one by one parts of the wall of this nation crumble. I keep asking Him what my role is for such a time as this. You must ask yourself the same question.  For now, I am standing at the gap in the wall and praying God raises up an army to stand with me to rebuild the wall of America. Will you be a gap stander too?
