The Power of the Resurrection!

Today we celebrate Easter!  Many in our nation associate Easter with colored eggs, Easter egg hunts and the bunny rabbit. While these are all fine and fun for children, the reason Christians celebrate this day is not to get an Easter basket filled with chocolate bunnies, but to remember and rejoice in the fact that Jesus Christ rose from the grave.  In the gospel account of Mark, chapter sixteen , Mary Magdalene, and Mary, the mother of James came to the tomb to anoint Jesus’ body with spices, but they were startled when they saw that the stone had been rolled away from the tomb.  “As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed. “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here…”  Mark 16:5&6.

The whole basis of Christianity is the fact that Christ rose from the dead.  Death could not hold Him in the grave! He conquered all of our sin and death when He was crucified, died and buried, and on the third day rose again.  The apostle Paul says in 2 Timothy 1:10″our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality through the gospel.”  This is the blessed hope for believers, that if we commit our lives to His and trust Jesus as our Savior and LORD, repent of our sins and surrender our  all to God, that we too will conquer death when we die. 1 Corinthians 15:56&57 declare, “The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.  But thanks be to God who gives us the victory through our LORD Jesus Christ.”  But not only that, Jesus says in the gospel of John 17:3 “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  God wants us to know Him personally, and the only way to truly know God is to know His Word.

These are Biblical examples from God’s Word about the power of the resurrection, but I have also seen first hand the power of the resurrection in my own life and family.  I stand in awe of God’s power over sin and death.  In all our lives, we have experienced sorrow, death, and pain because we are on this side of heaven, and we live in a fallen world.  But Jesus says in John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy.  I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”  The thief He is referring here to is Satan, and that is the devil’s only goal, to steal, kill and destroy. He tries to destroy dreams, families, churches, relationships, and anything good.  But Jesus comes to give us life abundantly and take what Satan has stolen and redeem it with His resurrection power.  I marvel at what God has restored in my own family.

The only way something can be resurrected is for it to be dead.  Jesus was dead and buried, and there was a huge stone put in front of His tomb.  But no stone nor any other power could hold the King of Kings and Creator of the Universe in the grave.  Many times in our lives, it appears as if a dream or vision or relationship or person is dead.  The truth is all believers were dead people walking until Christ called us to Himself.  Ephesians 2:1 “As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins.”  Ephesians 2:8&9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith- and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God- not by works, so that no one can boast.”

I have seen personally in my own family God’s resurrection with a brother who overcame a struggle with addiction over ten years ago, and now has a wonderful fitness ministry where he helps others take care of their bodies.  He has such a spirit of helpfulness and has helped many people overcome their addictions.  He is in amazing shape himself and runs marathons and is training for an iron man.  Talk about restoration and resurrection. He almost destroyed his body, but now he is in better shape than most people half his age. There are countless other areas in my immediate family that are far too personal to post, but for those who know us know that God has restored the years the locusts have eaten as Joel 2:25 says.  My business has also been on life support a few times through the years, but I have watched God bring resurrection there also.

So I can say without an inkling of a shadow of a doubt, that there is power in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and I rejoice in the fact that He is still in the business of resurrection even today.  I pray that you will experience His Risen power and love, and if there is an area in your life that needs resurrection, bring it to the One who has all power and authority. Nothing is too big or too difficult for Him, after all He was dead and is alive! Alleluia! He is risen! He is risen indeed!
