Making a Difference for Our Wounded Veterans

I hope your summer has been going well! Over the last few weeks, I have attended a number of events and meetings around the state, and I wanted to send you an update about one in particular.

This past weekend, I had the honor of partnering with the Georgia GOP Veteran’s Committee and Chairman Ron Johnson in their initiative to purchase and provide custom-made sports wheelchairs for wounded veterans. These wheelchairs enable  veterans who have suffered lower body injuries to be more active and to train for the Paralympics.

On Saturday, I had the privilege of presenting a wheelchair to Major Pete Way, an incredible veteran from Augusta that lost his leg while serving in Afghanistan. (See picture above!) Major Way could not have been more gracious, and I was so touched by his response to receiving the wheelchair: “The military mindset is to have a mission and a purpose, and I lost those when I lost my leg. But with this new wheelchair, you’ve given me a new lease on life.”

I have been amazed by the impact of this initiative of the Georgia GOP Veteran’s Committee, and I hope to work with them to find ways to raise more funds to provide more veterans with custom sports wheelchairs. Additionally, I have reached out to Reince Priebus about the potential for expanding this project on a national scale. Gifting wounded veterans with these wheelchairs is a such a meaningful way to care for those who have done so much for us!

May God Bless You,
Ginger Howard
